2015 USA Curling College Champions- Wisconsin-Stevens Point

Wisconsin-Stevens Point swept their competition in winning the 2015 USA Curling College Championship on Sunday, March 15. UWSP went 3-0 in round robin play and took the first seed in the championship round by virtue of their superb Draw Shot Challenge efforts. In the Semi-Finals UWSP decisively took care of the 2013 National Champion, Minnesota 7-1 in 5 ends while a couple sheets away the University of Pennsylvania was successfully taking on the 2014 National Champion, Wisconsin-Green Bay.

In the 1st/2nd Final Point and Penn played a very tight match, after 5 ends it was 4-3 Point. In the 6th end Point scored 2, then stole 1 in the 7th end and used some fantastic defensive shots to prevent Penn from building up any chance for an offensive statement until Penn ran out of rocks. Final score UWSP 7 Penn 4.

Penn left Rochester with the Silver Medals in hand. Massachusetts Institute of Technology took Bronze by defeating Rennselear Polytechnic Institute, making their 3rd straight top 4 appearance, the only school to accomplish that feat. 4th place went to the home town school Rochester Institute of Technology. Boston University took 5th Place.

Thanks goes out to all who participated and helped. Special thanks to the Rochester Curling Club for hosting this event and for the support of the US Curling Association, Taco Bell and Brooms Up Curling Supplies.

** Tiebreaker Rule for 2015 USCA Curling College Championship Invitation Announced

The Championship Guidelines never had a procedure in case of a tie for the final invitation slot(s) between two or more schools.

The USCA College Curling Committee met on this topic and developed a procedure that is consistent with other USCA Championships, is easy to determine and totally transparent within our framework of record keeping.

The following wording will be added to the Guidelines for 2016, and by this notification and notification on our Facebook Page and by email, become effective immediately for the 2015 Championship invitation process.

"If two or more schools are tied for the final spot(s), then the invitation will go to the school that earned the most points the previous year. If schools are still tied then the invitation will go to the school that earned the most points two years prior."

On checking the records of the past two years, this method will produce an unambiguous result for 2015. If any potential for an ambiguous situation arises in future years, that will be dealt with as needed and announced well in advance of the invitation event deadline.
